To apply for or renew your membership, use the following links for the official forms. Enter the appropriate local dues rate as shown below. Return the application with your payment and any other necessary documents to the address provided on the form. Fax numbers are provided on the form for faster service; however it is not currently possible to apply over the phone or directly on the website. MEMBER APPLICATIONS
Note: Allied Membership is at the local (San Francisco) level only. This category includes those who work in professions Allied to the practice of Architecture, such as Engineers, Suppliers, Contractors, and Interior Designers. Students and Component Affiliates can also apply using this form.
CURRENT DUES RATES – NEW MEMBERS ONLY
Enter these dues rates on your application. AIA and Associate AIA members also are required to join at the State and National level and pay respective dues amounts. Your total will be Local + State + National. National dues rates are already listed on the pre-printed application; for your convenience, all mandatory dues rates are listed separately and calculated below. The current dues pro-rate period begins on July 1st; the following rates reflect the appropriate discounts for less than 1 full year of membership. Paying the following amount will entitle you to membership through January 31st, 2009.
- AIA: (local) $168.75. (plus state) $69.75 (plus national) $178.50. = $417. total
- Associate AIA: (local) $112.50 (plus state) $9. (plus national) $76.50. = $198. total
- Allied Individual: $262.50 total
- Allied Corporate: $1,000. total
- Student $15. total
- Component Affiliate $168.75 total
- Emeritus $0. or $65. to receive AIA SF mailings *does not include the optional additional fee of $48. annually to receive National Mailings and the Architectural Record.
- Renewing members and firm principals should refer to the Dues page for additional information. Renewing AIA and Associate AIA member dues rates will be higher due to CA State-level ‘Step’ dues, which increase for the first 3 concurrent years of your membership. CHAPTER QUALIFICATIONS
Download the Out of Chapter form if you do not live or work in San Francisco or Marin Counties.
You must live, work, or attend school in San Francisco/Marin counties in order to join the AIA SF as an AIA or Associate AIA Member. (The residence requirement does not apply for Allied members or Component Affiliates.) If you are not qualified by residence or work address to join the San Francisco chapter, you must contact your local chapter to discuss which chapter will best suit your professional needs. Any application and payment will be held until your local chapter submits the “Out of Chapter” form noting that you have permission to join AIA San Francisco. (If you join another chapter, your local dues rate will be different.)
APPLICATION PROCESSING
Allow for the standard 6-8 weeks processing time. For a receipt or to be invoiced directly, contact the National Office at 1-800-242-3837. For other membership questions you can contact the AIA California Council (State office) at 916-448-9082 and ask for Mardriss Nelson.
USING YOUR NEW BENEFITS
Local AIA SF member benefits are active as of the date you submit your application. However, you will not have your member number until after your application and payment are processed at the National office. If you do not have your member number and you wish to register for an event or class using your local-member discount, contact the local office and be prepared to provide a copy of your application or other proof of your new membership.
