ARCHITECTURE & THE CITY FESTIVAL

The 2008 Architecture and the City program will continue the tradition of featuring architectural tours, including our highly-acclaimed San Francisco Living: Home Tours weekend, film screenings, lectures, and more. Past events have been held in conjunction with participating arts and culture organizations, including the San Francisco Public Library, California College of the Arts (CCA), UC Berkeley, SFMOMA, de Young Museum, and many others.

SAN FRANCISCO LIVING: HOME TOURS
September 13-14, 2008
This popular weekend provides design enthusiasts, potential homeowners and the general public with an inside look at San Francisco residential architecture and design via a self-guided, open house format. Tour participants have the opportunity to meet with project designers, explore housing trends, and discover design solutions that inspire unique San Francisco living.

INTEGRATED PROJECT DELIVERY SALONS
Salon Dates: 3/25, 4/22, 5/27, 6/24, 9/23, 10/22
This series is in its second year of programming and has proven to be very successful. It is the project delivery system that uses alternative business structures, practices and processes to collaboratively harness the talents and insights of all participants in the design, construction and fabrication process. It does not require any specific technology and, at a practical level, it is enhanced with technologies, such as Building Information Modeling and project-based websites, that facilitate collaboration. Integrated Practice focuses on the roles and relationships of each participant in the design process.

Target Audience: Industry Professionals
Estimated Attendance: 70-100 per salon

*NEW* LEED EXAM PREP CLASSES
This new series of classes will provide an overview of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation process as well as helpful tips and resources for passing the exam. It is organized in conjunction with our new neighbor, the USGBC-NCC (U.S. Green Building Council's Northern California Chapter). It began April 2007 as a series of six classes per year and is expected to grow due to the high demand from the architectural community interested in sustainable design. It is expected to be the catalyst to prepare at least 500 individuals or more per year for LEED licensure.

LECTURES
Members and Design related professionals have an opportunity to support various lectures which take place here at the AIA SF office by providing anywhere between $300-$500 for food and drinks. Name placement of your firm or company will appear on our plasma screens during the Lecture.

 *NEW* PORTFOLIO REVIEW DAY
The first Portfolio Review Day took place on November 3, 2007 and due to popular demand is scheduled again for 2008! Design students will benefit by having professional designers from a range of backgrounds show them how to best showcase their abilities, interests, and achievements, arrange and synthesize their design projects for a specific audience and think critically about shaping the next phase of their training. There will also be guest speakers present to give career advice and marketing best practices.

*NEW* SUSTAINABILITY SALON SERIES
This new series (every 4th Thursday of the month) will consist of monthly evening presentations and discussions entitled, "Sustainability: Meeting the 2030 Challenge" and will focus on energy reduction and practical information for architects designing buildings.
