CANstruction Exhibit Opening Reception
- One Market Building Atrium, 1 Market Street, San Francisco, CA
Teams of architects, engineers and contractors will gather at the Paramount Group’s One Market building in San Francisco this November for the second San Francisco CANstruction®, an event which last year generated donations of more than 50,000 pounds of food and $20,000 for the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks.
The event brings together teams of designers and builders to construct giant-sized structures from canned food.
In 2012, all sculptures – expected to average more than 6 feet tall – will be centered on the theme of the CANnes Film Festival, including replicas of scenes from King Kong, JAWS, Alice in Wonderland and much more.
Once built, sculptures are judged and win awards for categories such as Best Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity and Best Meal. Past judges for the event include Brian Boitano, Olympic champion and Food Network personality; Cory Lee, head chef of San Francisco’s Benu restaurant; and architect Peter Pfau of Pfau Long Architecture. The 2012 jury will be announced before the event.
Judging will take place and winners will be announced at the opening night reception, to be held Nov. 12 from 6:00-8:30 pm at One Market. Tickets to the award reception are available at the Food Bank’s website, www.sffoodbank.org/canstruction-2012.
This year’s teams include: Arup, Parson Brinckerhoff and Kwan Henmi; RIM Architects, Howard S. Wright and KPFF Consulting Engineers; MBH Architects; BCCI Builders and DES Architects & Engineers; Tipping Mar; DPR Construction and KMD Architects; Bull Stockwell Allen; Gensler, Glumac and Riverbed Technology; Principal Builders and ASD; Turner Construction, BAR Architects and ZFA Structural Engineers; SmithGroup JJR; McCarthy Building Companies; GCI General Contractors and Huntsman Architectural Group; and Crome Architecture.
