2021 Architecture Citation Award + Social Responsibility Commendation
A refuge in the Tenderloin, this affordable mid-rise replaces a parking lot with high-density, supportive homes for low-income and formerly homeless families. Convenient to Market Street transit, the mixed-use community integrates high sustainability, on-site social resources, neighborhood retail, and flexible open green space—a scarce and critical resource for the area.
The jury was deeply impressed that, as affordable mixed-use housing, this project creates an ensemble building that elevates its surroundings while providing a dignified, well-considered design for its residents.
