The O’Donohue Family Stanford Educational Farm

2019 Citation Award

Located on the outskirts of a prominent research university, the Farm serves as a working agricultural complex that provides over 15,000 pounds of produce each year to the campus, and a living laboratory where students, faculty, and community test ideas about social and environmental aspects of farming and urban agriculture.

The jury enjoyed the strong organization of the plan, and found that the project elevates the traditional barn form. The lovely façade, careful detailing, and strong manipulation of materials along a few simple ideas have deconstructed and transformed a typically dark and utilitarian structure into a building that is light and inviting.
