PG&E Potrero

2020 Architecture Citation Award

The new Potrero PG&E substation building is set back 30’ from the sidewalk creating a public plaza. The 30’ façade wall is elaborated with 4’ precast concrete bands unfolding onto the plaza, becoming seating and pedestals to invite habitation. At night, concealed LED’s illuminate the vertical and horizontal public surfaces.

The jury admired this artful treatment of what would typically be an intrusive eyesore in the urban streetscape, and asks to see more infrastructure as bold architectural statement, please!
