The Bechtel Family Center for Ocean Education and Leadership for Monterey Bay Aquarium

2020 Architecture Citation Award

With growing demand for its one-of-a-kind educational offerings, the Monterey Bay Aquarium spearheaded a new four-story Education Center along the historic Cannery Row. The facility, crafted with materials that respect the district’s industrial history and vernacular, provides an immersive educational experience with STEM learning labs and live animal exhibits.

The jury enjoyed this sophisticated, contemporary rendering of the Cannery Row vernacular.
