2022 Interior Architecture Merit Award
The new Eolian Headquarters is a pristine white space showcasing the company’s commitment to a clean energy future. A grid of exposed steel columns serves as a network of spatial connections evocative of the power grid linking to users. A calm space, punctuated with subtle references to topography, turbines, and movement.
The jury applauded the consistency of atmosphere in the space, enforced through the treatment of infrastructure, lighting tonality, materials, and qualities of reflectivity and matte-ness. This ambience conveys a feeling that reflects the company’s positive ethos and mission – around accelerating the adoption of clean energy and grid resilience – in a sophisticated way that is sustained very rigorously throughout. There is an excellent use of white finishes and glass to bring light into the interior of the space. It is encouraging that this is a Living Building Challenge rated space with a design that encourages passive strategies such as daylight, shading, and user control.
