Organization Overview

This project repurposes abandoned infrastructure into an urban deck and ecological hub, providing shaded spaces for community gatherings amidst nature. It harnesses microclimate features like waterfalls and swamps to manage and purify floodwater from River des Peres. Informed by the river's history as a St. Louis landmark turned sewage tunnel, the project seeks to rekindle connections between people and the river. Adopting a "hydro-social" approach, fixed wastewater treatment facilities complement flexible social spaces. Elevated treatment levels offer unique perspectives, encouraging engagement with water and environmental education. The project serves as a platform for reconnecting people with nature, history, and science, fostering a deeper understanding of their relationship with water and the surrounding ecosystem.
