UCSF Pediatric Stad Center

Organization Overview
The new 6,500sf UCSF Pediatric Stad Center consolidates the existing Pediatric Chronic Illness Center, IP3 (Pain, Palliative Care & Integrative Medicine Center), and Pediatric Therapy Center into one clinic for an integrative and seamless healthcare experience. Their innovative pediatric program is one of the most comprehensive of its kind in the nation, offering alternative therapies to provide the greatest and most innovative care possible.
Drawing from the natural beauty of the San Francisco Bay Area, the new unified clinic is conceptualized as a “Healing Device” that integrates analog and digital experiences to engage the senses. Elements of color, daylighting, views, and interactive & multi-sensory experiences make up the integrated strategy to create a space that is integral to the healing journey with a non-clinical feel.
The space features a simple, natural material palette. The sinuous form creates a sense of wonder, invites curiosity, and provides a framework for multi-sensory experiences for a holistic healing environment. The central space challenges the typical waiting room typology - It joins the neighborhoods as a hallway, a waiting area, a play area, and a family room.
The UCSF Stad Center is guided by four key goals: inclusiveness, healing environment, patient care, and functionality. It fosters community, ensuring accessibility for diverse patients and their families. Patient care is enhanced through efficiency of space, maximizing care areas, optimizing staff workspaces, and ensuring seamless and experiential workflow. These principles create a welcoming, efficient, and supportive space that enhances the healing experience for both patients and providers.
