Evaluating and Selecting Luminaires

Luminaires sold today are dominated by fixtures with LEDs as the source. As always, their
characteristics need to be reviewed and compared to choose the best fixture for an application.
This class will review some lighting concepts including color, glare, and the need for control
compatibility. Basic lighting terminology and metrics will be reviewed as well as some
photometry, so evaluating and choosing a luminaire based on information shown on spec sheets
and other supporting documentation is easier. This class is designed to look at energy-efficient
fixtures, especially LEDs, and learn to evaluate their technical features to select the most
appropriate for a particular application. This class qualifies for 6.0 CEU for AIA-HSW.
