Creative design studio | Global opportunities | Award-winning workplaces
We’re seeking a Senior Urban Designer to join our San Francisco studio where you’ll work with a talented team of designers on city-shaping masterplans and commercial developments.
We work across architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and urban design – a rich multi-disciplinary mix of skills and perspectives that unlocks the economic, social and cultural value of projects.
We combine our creative design expertise with capabilities in strategy, research, technology and experience design, and we regularly collaborate with experts and partners from further afield.
Through our work, we’re trying to build a more inclusive, sustainable future for communities – and create a more socially and ecologically resilient world.
About the team
Our design values are shared globally across all the Hassell studios, by the talented people who work in them: architects, interior designers, landscape architects, urban designers, planners and specialist consultants.
We work together in integrated design teams because they produce the best outcomes for our clients. The increasingly complex projects that clients bring to us demand a culture built on collaboration, creativity, and innovation in design thinking and delivery.
Openness and empathy with our clients ensure their interests are at the heart of everything we design.
About the role
As a Senior Urban Designer with Hassell in San Francisco, you’ll work in close partnership with clients, consultants and our Principals to provide leadership in the design and delivery of complex projects to successful completion.
You’ll lead multidisciplinary design teams on a range of project scales and stages, from large-scale master plans to individual buildings.
This is a client facing role where you’ll actively drive design quality, innovation and excellence in the development and briefing of conceptual design solutions to the client.
We’re looking for a Senior Urban Designer who is talented, focussed and driven with a passion for designing places people love.
You should also have:
_A demonstrated track record in developing innovative urban design frameworks and systems including circulation, open space, built form and infrastructure across a range of project scales
_Ability to work efficiency with team members including consultants, stakeholders, statutory and non-statutory organisations in sometimes complex corporate environments
_Proficiency in 3D modelling, visualization and graphic software (Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Lumion and Enscape)
_Experience in programming, planning and site analysis
_Ability to extract information from public data sources for incorporation into design software (GIS to Rhino/Autocad).
_An appropriate tertiary qualification in Urban Design, Architecture or Landscape Architecture and a minimum of 6 years professional experience in urban design/urban and regional planning
_Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail
_Excellent written and verbal communication skills
We consider our people to be our greatest resource. With that in mind, we place great emphasis on attracting, retaining and developing the best talent.
We value diversity, employing people across a number of regions, representing many different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Our team has access to a range of benefits to support development and wellbeing:
