Hybrid Work Format

John Lum Architecture is an award winning, noted San Francisco firm consistently producing high-quality, award-winning designs ranging from single-family homes to commercial interiors.   Our projects are playful, and we approach each with the goals to understand our clients and create meaningful designs.  We create homes that are meant for living and are known for our warm modernism aesthetic.

Our project types include custom residential, multi-family, affordable housing, retail, and commercial interiors (and even a mortuary or two)!  We are open to collaboration and enjoy new and challenging projects.

We are seeking like-minded individuals who share our values of pragmatism, optimism and enthusiasm while maintaining a high level of ethics and humanity.   We believe strongly in creating a supportive work environment with competitive salaries, exceptional vacation and health insurance, and generous benefits (year-end bonuses, profit-sharing and retirement)!

We thank you for considering our studio and invite you to join our dynamic team of 17.

Working at JLA:

JLA’s Designers work under direct supervision of a project architect/manager performing routine architectural assignments using prescribed methods and from the design of others.  Assignments may include but not limited to producing as-built drawings, inputting schematic design sketches, general production on all phases of a project and 3D presentation materials.  The ideal candidate should have a solid background in Design and Production workflow, some exposure to all project phases is helpful, along with good organizational and clear communication skills.  An individual with sharp design sensibilities and eagerness to take on new challenges and learn new skills will thrive in this position.  Advancement opportunities are available.

Our studio is located in a converted laundry workshop in the heart of the Mission District with easy access to BART and MUNI.  Due to Covid, we have adopted a hybrid work format for our employees with fully outfitted, company-supplied at-home workstations in addition to the office location.
