AIA San Francisco is advancing tomorrow’s design leaders through a partnership with universities and colleges, including California College for the Art, University of California, Berkeley College of Environmental Design, and City College of San Francisco, to offer scholarships to students annually.


The Architects Foundation celebrates architecture’s value by advancing future design leaders and preserving architectural treasures of the past. Positioning for new success, the Architects Foundation is launching a momentous increase in its scholarship program. By enhancing the program, the Architects Foundation aims to attract and cultivate a diverse, next generation of architects, while providing new opportunities to support our evolving profession.

Make a Difference: Support Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

ByDESIGN is a Latinx in Architecture supported program that has committed to giving back by sponsoring a yearly scholarship program called "ByDESIGN Presents the CASA Alumni Scholarships" at the College of Environmental Design at Cal. The event has disbursed over $123,000 in cash scholarships, laptops, software, fellowships, internships, and cars to low-income students of Color, Women, and LGBTQ students since 2011. The event will feature a distinguished speaker.

AIA Emerging Leader Scholarship

This scholarship helps talented students in the Architecture program continue their studies and earn their degrees. The AIA Emerging Leader Scholarship is a joint scholarship program between AIASF and AIA National.

The Pflueger Architecture Scholarship is named after Timothy Pflueger, a working-class draftsman who never attended college, but went on to become a prominent architect in San Francisco. He designed every major building at the Ocean campus of what became City College San Francisco, where its architecture department is located. The Pflueger Architecture Scholarship is a joint scholarship program between AIASF and AIA National.
SWE Scholarships support women pursuing ABET-accredited baccalaureate or graduate programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology and computer science in the United States and Mexico.
The AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate-level scholarships to students enrolled in ABET or ACCE-accredited construction management or construction-related engineering programs.

AIASF Howard Friedman Scholarship 

The Howard Friedman Scholarship is awarded each year to an undergraduate student in recognition of scholastic achievement and commitment to the advancement of procedures and methods of architectural practice. The Howard Friedman Scholarship is a joint scholarship program between AIASF and AIA National.

UMSI brings together UNCF, the Merck Company Foundation and Merck Global Diversity Inclusion to offer 37 annual awards to outstanding African American students and postdoctoral researchers.
