Senior Designer (Blue Truck Studio)

The Senior Designer's core responsibilities are focused around two primary areas: 1. Creative Contribution 2. Project Production and Leadership

CREATIVE CONTRIBUTION

  • Comprehend and uphold Blue Truck’s design principles and aesthetic values.
  • Practice innovative and collaborative design skills in partnership with the Principal and project teams to establish and execute project work from concept to construction details in line with the studio’s creative vision, budget and project program.
  • Mentor creative growth of junior team members.
  • Assist in developing and promoting office standards for drafting, presenting, and all means of visual communication. 

PROJECT PRODUCTION AND LEADERSHIP  

  • Lead 2-4 person project teams.
  • Contribute to the production of drawings, renderings, models, etc.
  • Understand project schedules and milestones. Participate in regular meetings with project team members to review key financial, schedule and production milestones.
  • Establish and manage project documents, including design documents and supporting project files.
  • Coordinate and file all digital and hardcopy information to support a clear file structure and thorough project records.
  • Responsible for detail development, design development and preparation of project presentation drawings and construction documents. 

SKILLS + EXPECTATIONS

It is expected that the Senior Designer will have at least 5 years of experience in residential architecture, including mastery of:

  • Construction Documents
  • Construction methods, materials and finishes 
  • Construction Administration
  • San Francisco permitting and California building codes, including Title 24 - Archicad 27 
  • Photoshop 2024
  • Microsoft Teams and Excel 
  • MacOS Characteristics and skills of a successful Senior Designer:
  • Outstanding design talent and passionate conceptual thinker
  • Strong presentation skills, both graphically and verbally
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Responsible and accountable for his or her mistakes
  • Strong collaboration skills 
  • Strong drafting skills 

EMPLOYMENT

The Senior Designer reports directly to the Principal and typically works in the company office Monday through Friday. Compensation will be determined based on actual experience and skills but is expected to be in the range of $80k-$100k annually.
