AIA San Francisco partners with AIA East Bay for this exclusive art and architecture tour of noted patrons Cindy and Howard Rachofsky’s private sculpture garden on Big Ranch Road in Napa Valley. Surrounded by vineyards, the property features site-specific artworks by Richard Long, Ugo Rondinone, and Jacob Kassay among other notable artists drawn from the couple’s international contemporary art collection of roughly 800 works at The Rachofsky House in Dallas, Texas, as well as an AIA San Francisco award-winning, repurposed century-old former hay barn by WDA | William Duff Architects.
WDA founder William Duff, AIA, LEED AP,will co-lead the tour with local art curator and UC Merced researcher Rina Faletti, PhD. After the tour, William, along with key project consultants Tim McDonald, president of Centric Building, and Eric Johnson, principal at EJA Lighting Design, will discuss the barn transformation.
Big Ranch Road is a renovation of a private turn-of-the-century hay barn. This rustic agricultural building was relocated to align with an existing pool and to integrate into a new landscape plan. An open entertainment space is framed by a gym/yoga room on one end of the barn, and a bar, catering kitchen, powder room and storage on the other. Two highly refined mirrored boxes at both ends of the existing barn shell add contrast and elegance, and complete the rich character of the barn framework.
