2019 Urban Transformation Special Commendation
Transitional-aged youth, who have aged-out of foster care and fallen through California's safety net, are intentionally paired with mentoring low-income families in supportive housing with a new bustling, adjacent public plaza and gateway to a community college as its shared front porch, threading residents, neighbors, passersby, and transient students together.
The jury appreciated how this project creatively re-imagined a city block for the public good, taking city property to create supportive house and serve the community in a socially responsible way while integrating and upgrading urban infrastructure.
