Fresh Brew | Constraints Reduction Ordinance

    Tuesday, March 19, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am PDT

Free | RSVP Requested (Limited seating)

Join us at the Center for Architecture + Design for an around-the-table morning conversation and grab a cup o' joe in our storefront cafe, Système D as we kick off the first in-person "Fresh Brew" of the year.

All are welcome for this talk on the Constraints Reduction Ordinance with San Francisco Planner Aaron Starr, and moderated by Architect and AIASF Public Policy and Advocacy Committee (PPAC) member Serina Calhoun, who will shed light on the new ordinance and how it is being implemented.

The Ordinance is in effect as of January 14, 2024, and encompasses significant changes to the planning code, affecting both new and in-process projects. This conversation can help architects get up to speed on these changes, and can also provide an opportunity for the larger community to discuss how the ordinance may impact the building fabric in San Francisco.

This program is in collaboration with AIASF Small Firms Knowledge Community

    Speakers

Aaron Starr, San Francisco Planning Department

Aaron is the Manager of Legislative Affairs for the Planning Department. He and his team review legislation introduced by the Board and Mayor’s office, develop the department’s recommendation for the Planning Commission, and see the ordinance through to adoption. The legislative team also drafts and proposes legislation. Aaron was the drafter and project manager of several notable legislative pieces including the Restaurant Definition Rationalization Ordinance, The Code Reorganization Effort (parts 1, 2, and 3), the Cannabis Land Use Regulation Ordinance, Cars to Casas, Prop H, and the recently passed Constraints Reduction Ordinance.

Serina Calhoun, Syncopated Architecture / Property Atlas

Serina is the Principal Architect and Founder of Syncopated Architecture, a six-person, woman-owned Architecture firm located in San Francisco. Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, she has been practicing in the Bay Area since 2001. Her work spans many project types including residential projects, apartment renovations/reconfigurations, accessory dwelling unit projects, public school modernizations, new multi-family housing construction, high rise design, and government feasibility studies. She has done work all across the Bay Area, but the majority of her work is located in San Francisco.

Fresh Brew is a series of online and in-person morning conversations covering a variety of topics about all things architecture and design. Fresh Brew provides the general public and industry professionals with engaging dialogue and a space for inspiration.
