    Implementing Low-Carbon Concrete Standards

    Tuesday, November 14, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm PST

This panel discussion will share experiences implementing the Marin County Low Carbon Concrete Code. The Code, developed through a robust regional stakeholder engagement process, is the result of a coordinated project effort that aimed to reduce embodied emissions in the built environment by creating local specifications and model policies for low embodied-carbon concrete.

The event will include a panel discussion with a Marin County official, a ready-mix supplier who has gone through the process of approving mixes, and engineers who helped develop the code. Discussion will include: The role of local government entities and what they can do to accelerate adoption of low carbon concrete; procurement logistics of low carbon concrete; and how concrete fits into the larger embodied carbon landscape.

    5:00 - 6:00 PM | Happy Hour

    6:00 - 7:30 PM | Panel Presentation and Q&A

This event is co-hosted by the AIASF Committee on the Environment (COTE) and the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) Sustainable Design Committee; Light refreshments will be served.

    Learning Objectives (1.5 LU/HSW Pending)

1-Learn how to implement the Low-Carbon Code from a designer’s perspective.

2-Understand the role of enforcing government entities and what they can do to accelerate adoption of low carbon concrete.

3-Verify the procurement logistics of low carbon concrete.

4-Review how concrete fits into the larger embodied carbon landscape.
