Learning Objectives
This hybrid presentation will provide an overview on what steps are required with NCARB and CAB in the process of getting licensed, and will detail support provided by AIASF’s Architectural Licensing Committee (ALC) through ARE education opportunities. AIASF’s ARE class sessions and the ARE Pact program will be discussed so that ARE candidates can determine which resources would be most beneficial for their path to licensure. About the Presenters
Jared N. Zurn, AIA, NCARB, CAE
Vice President | Examination
With over 13 years of experience working on the development and administration of the ARE, Jared has intimate knowledge of the transition away from the vignette-based exam to today’s practiced-based six-division format, ARE 5.0. He oversees the business relationships with the testing agency and other testing vendors involved in delivering and scoring each candidate’s exam. He can provide insight into the exam through data and personal experience.
Amy Cernicky, AIA
Examination Technician Specialist | California Architects Board
Amy started working for the California Architects Board (Board) in June 2020 as an Examination
Technician and promoted to her current position as the ARE Examination Specialist in December 2022. Prior to working for the Board, she worked at a company in the private sector for over 27 years, serving in various capacities.
Oscar Diaz
Continuing Education & Licensing Specialist | California Architects Board
Oscar started working with the California Architects Board (Board) since 2019 as a Public Information Technician and was recently promoted to my current position in May 2022 as the Continuing Education & Licensing Specialist. He was also a Military Licensure & Outreach Representative for the Board. His position is to conduct monthly audits of our licensee population to ensure compliance with CA laws of architectural practice, specifically the license renewal requirements. Before joining the Board, he served six years of Active Duty in the U.S. Air Force, to which that knowledge and experience greatly assisted when reviewing military licensure applications and determining their eligibility for either a portable or expedited license. In 2023, he became a designated outreach representative for the Board, and he is passionate about providing assistance regarding continuing education requirements, licensing, and military-expedited licensing.
